These thoughts are being submitted November 1, 2024. Four days before all polling places are open for the primary elections, which includes the electing of the president who will serve America until 2028. Needless to say, this is a very significant election and emanates a heightened sense of voter caution and alertness, especially after the recounts of the 2000 and 2004 presidential elections, and the controversy over the 2020 election results. This devotion is being written in the state of Florida, where the hanging-chad controversy took place in 2000. Election officials are being very diligent around the nation to eliminate any question about who the next American president is according to the legitimate vote.
The level of confidence in the election process is weighing in the balance in 2024, but there is an election that Christians can have full confidence in. God went to the most unquestionable extreme of love when he chose His elect people. God chose His elect through The Elect Savior, His Son Jesus Christ. Our election was made absolutely sure through the Lord Jesus Christ’s crucifixion. There were no polling lines, only mockers standing at the base of a blood stained cross. If you have trusted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, then you never have to doubt your election, and thus never doubt your salvation. Therefore, it is imperative to God and for our nation that Christians vote, because we choose our president with a majority of electoral votes. Floridians learned from the 2000 hanging chad controversy that every individual vote makes a difference. We are more accountable to vote in the U.S., than most other nations who do not enjoy the voice we have through the voting booth. We are “a government of the people, by the people and for the people.” We are not a dictatorship. We forfeited our vote choices when we made Jesus Christ Lord of our lives and are obligated to vote for the most Godly path available. We are to turn our democracy into a Theocracy. A sad number is thrown around that 60% of Christians don’t vote. Since Jesus paid such a high price on the cross to vote for us, we should vote for him this coming Tuesday by doing the best we can to vote for Bible informed and influenced candidates and principles. It is admittedly difficult to sift through all the political mudslinging, spin and outright lies, but may we not be discouraged from praying and voting. God is watching every child of God, and evaluating what form and extent of blessing or discipline we deserve as a nation.
