Welcome Pastor Keith Bonner:
Devotion for Devotion Sake
By Keith Bonner May 8th 2024 Volume 1
A “quiet time” is universally recognized in the lives of believers in Jesus Christ as a term used to describe one’s personal devotion time. There are many motivations for having a quiet time with God. Checking a quiet time off a list of things to do can be comforting. Trying to get through painful circumstances can drive one to their knees and their leather covered Bible. Having a quiet time to get the preacher off of one’s back may motivate some. But how about trying the motive Jesus taught during His Sermon on the Mount. He used fasting to make the point that we should do acts of devotion toward God for God’s sake, not for personal benefit only or for public recognition.
Moreover, when you fast, do not be like the hypocrites, with a sad countenance. For they disfigure their faces that they may appear to men to be fasting. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward. But you, when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, so that you do not appear to men to be fasting, but to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly. (Matthew 6:16-18, nkjv)
How about spending some quiet time with the Father just because of the mutual love between you two, and then be quiet about it. That might just be devotion for devotion’s sake.
