Seeker Sensitive is a term used to describe a worship style that is culturally relevant to the immediate context in which a church is located. The service is designed to be attractive to nonbelievers who prayerfully will visit the service and eventually believe in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. The strategy has its challenges however, though the motives are pure. The biggest challenge to seeker sensitivity, especially in the U.S.A., is the diversity we enjoy (or not). Most American communities enjoy multiple music styles, clothing styles, languages, language usage styles, and etc. It is impossible to be culturally relevant to everyone in most American communities.
The church has “an ace in the hole” when it comes to the seeking business, however. Jesus Christ is the Good Shepherd who looks for his sheep.
11 For thus says the Lord God: “Indeed I Myself will
search for My sheep and seek them out.
12 “As a shepherd seeks out his flock on the day he
is among his scattered sheep, so will I seek out My
sheep and deliver them from all the places where
they were scattered on a cloudy and dark day.
(Ezekiel 34, nkj)
Take heart God’s sheep, clouds and darkness cannot keep you from God. The Good Shepherd is the True Seeker who is on duty 24/7.
